CDAS Catalogs and Retrieves files fromcommercially prepared or CD Recordable ISO 9660 discs, Kodak PhotoCD discand disc with Rockridge extensions. CDAS is a stateless product thatuses the native file system to catalog and retrieve CD-ROM files storedin CD-ROM jukeboxes, CD-ROM arrays, and on Caching magnetic disk.Advanced Mechatronic Services' CDAS employs a retrieval scheme thatcombines CD-ROM juke- boxes, CD-ROM arrays, and Caching hard disk in acommon system. CDAS' ALM (Advanced Learn Mode) Caching algorithm hasanswered the question of many users can use a JukeBox based systemsimultaneous. When a file is requested from a CD-ROM that is in theJukeBox, the CD-ROM is mounted in the next-available-drive, ALM cachesthe requested file/directory to cache, serves the requesting client fromcache and unmounts the CD-ROM drive to make it available for otherrequests. The current user and all subsequent requests for thisfile/directory are served from faster magnetic disk cache at networkspeeds. Files are transparently available to clients whether they residein a JukeBox, CD-ROM array or Caching magnetic disk.CDAS-R is a CD Recordable product that allows automated Premastering ofCD-ROMs within a JukeBox. CDAS-R employs an intermediary caching/imaginghard disk between the workstation and the CDR drive. When the CDR imageis ready to be written, CDAS-R writes the CD Record- able disk from theintermediary caching/imaging disk. The new CD-ROM is then Cataloged andmade available for users.CDAS and CDAS-R supports the Kubik CDR240M, NSM CDX100 and the NSMMercury 40 CD-ROM jukeboxes.
